How can it be treated as a hate crime, when the motive for placing the item near the Mosque remains unclear?

When one reads some of the readers comments, it put on an entirely different meaning to the story, than some would have us believing.

Maybe they were considering whether it is a one off hate crime or might need status uprated to "terrorist plot".

The police treat things as say "suspicious" all the time, before finding out through investigation that they aren't. thereofre something can be treated as a hate crime, before investigations proceed to find out if it is or isn't. Best to treat something as the worst possible scenario, than think it's all ok then find out it isnt i suppose

Well let me try and put it clearer, example: "the police are treating it as a 'RACIST' crime, but don't know why this person attacked the black person"

Seems obvious to me it was because he was 'BLACK'.

So the same applies here "the police are treating it as a 'HATE CRIME', but don't know what the motive was for placing it near the Mosque".

Also seems obvious it was 'HATED' towards those in the Mosque.

AOG, Unless it was inadvertently mislaid by a Muslim bomber, the motive for leaving it close to a mosque must be rather suspect, wouldn't you say? I can't imagine many people place bombs with no specific intention.

Do things sound altogether right about this affair?
