No, I'm not saying he isn't allowed to say what he wants...but we all self censor don't we?
If you see a fat woman buying a cake in Sainsburys, you might think, "Better stick with the Ryvita love", but you certainly wouldn't elect to walk over to her and say it out loud.
It's almost like some people develop a kind of Tourette's...

Can't see what all the fuss is about. Whether you agree with him or not surely he has the right to express his opinions. If you don't agree with him then take him to task about it but does it really need to get to the point where there is a 'formal investigation' about it.
As it happens I tend to agree with him. Certain children are born with disabilities or conditions that prevent them contributing anything to society. They are a burden that we should not have to bear.

What I find completely mystifying about this affair is how did Brewer get elected a second time ? He had made his rather stupid remarks but people either didn't know he had made them or disregarded them, and voted him in for a second time.
Is there anybody local to Brewer here on AB that can explain this please ?

Mickey, ever considered that there are an awful lot of people who dont agree with YOUR right-on left wing liberal views?
No saying he is right, but then are you?
This is a sensitive topic, but in one sense he is right. It does need to be discussed and the cost, particularly large sums to individuals, need to be addressed. The world is not perfect but we do not have the means to level it totally, somewhere along the line common sense needs to prevail.
SP, I think he wanted to highlight a problem. He has certainly bought it to the fore.

transcript
JP: “Should there be more abortions of disabled children?”
CB: “I don’t agree with abortions. I am a Christian. All life is precious. It’s a dilemma that I have. It cannot be just me. I suppose it is an ethics question. If you were talking about getting rid of a person or a life it is not something I could condone.
“You will never believe it. Two weeks ago I walked up through a street and a retired doctor said I was perfectly right.”
JP: “That some disabled children should be put down?”
CB: “Presumably it would depend on the degree of the disablement.”
JP: “What did you say to him?”
CB: “I knew him. I was an acquaintance in the past. He is a medical man. He knows his business presumably.”
JP: “There must be something to what he was saying?”
CB: “If that is what he said, there must be.”
JP: “But he was obviously advocating some kind of euthanasia?”
CB: “All he said was I was right in my comment.”
JP: “How do you balance those two things?”
CB: “You just can’t.”
JP: “He quoted some extract from The Way of Life, which he said he had never told anyone before but that he read every morning. It’s about doing good/no harm.”

Either life is precious or it isn't and you can't go putting prices on what people are worth depending whether they are ' normal' or disabled, THAT is morally repugnant, and there was an Austrian chap who tried it a few years back, didn't we have a war with him, largely on the basis that we didn't like his ideas?
YMB..I expect that there may indeed be people who don't agree with me and therefore think that some disabled children should be put down. But those views will be fought against by me and the majority of normal people.
I'm not sure why you continue to castigate me on AB for having left wing views ? I have never apologised for being left wing and I have no intention of doing so now, especially to you !
But what is left or right wing to do with not wanting to euthanize disabled children ?

I have a disabled sister, a brother who is deaf and another brother on the autism spectrum so I wouldn't get too offended if I were you, I just don't like wedges with thin ends being poked into the common domain by an idiot like this.
My reference to hitler stands I am afraid, but I am sorry if you tok personal offence to it. We went to war to stop that man from, amongst other things obviously, picking and choosing who died on the basis of their ohysical and mental health. This is not very far away and it's just as unacceptable and unpalettable.
