Which Should Be The Next City Of Culture?

Four "cities" are attempting to become the City of Culture 2017

Who do you think should get it? Here's your choices:

Dundee
Hull
Leicester
Swansea Bay

I think Leicester, but that's just because it's already got a lot going for it - and maybe this is the wrong way to think about it?

Additionally - someone on our Facebook page asked:

"Can anyone tell me how Sawnsea Bay have registered as 'City of Culture' 2017 when it isn't actually a City according to most information sites?"

Is Dundee a City? I know they have Dundee and Dundee Utd F.C's, but are they a city?

Yes, Dundee is a city and so is Swansea. But I fail to see how "Swansea Bay" qualifies.

More relevant to the question, however, is that I have been to all four of these places (Hull only last week) and I reckon the competetion will be a four way dead heat with all four of them coming last.

So it's a "city region" then, which seems to encompass about half of south Wales. I can't see the cultural delights of Llanelli and Neath boosting its chances. And the unpronounceable place beginning with a "Y" apparantly boasts a miners' welfare hall which doubles as a cinema. I still reckon it will come joint last

As the city most associated with the great William McGonigall it has to be Dundee :-)

sounds like a meaningless title anyway - no money, just the pious hope that sponsors will provide some (why should they?) and the BBC will stage Antiques Roadshow there. Plus, unlike the EU's cities of culture, there aren't that many to choose from; in a few years they'll have covered the lot.

In fact they may have done so already, if they're down to Swansea Bay.

Leicester, only because I've been to Swansea and Dundee and wasn't impressed, liked Leicester when I went and haven't had the pleasure of Hull :)
