Rather see it spent here than wasted in some African country with a despotic regime, where it wouldn't have reached the famine but doubtless would have been spread among the corrupt and greedy.

2 pence? I'd have given 2 quid.
I take it that you were not one of the millions that lost their jobs during her stint in office then Brenden ? Of course, I must be fair and point out that she threw Tory voters on to the scrapheap, as well as Labour voters.

Unemployment in 1979 was 1.4 million. By the time she was kicked out of office by her own Party, it had risen to nearly 3 million. But of course, as you say Brenden, there will be some here on AB that think that was a small price to pay for having such a "great politician"
Most of the cost was on heavy policing, presumably because they were afraid Jakes mates would kick off.

So you could say the biggest cost was caused by lefties not wanting to recognize other peoples views.
Thatcher? £1.2 million? $1.2 million is about what Philip Morris paid for her 70th birthday party in Washington. That was in gratitude for her valuable "advice" on how to support their campaign to avoid any legislation against tobacco-sellers worldwide. They also paid her $500,000 per annum for three years of that same "advice".
Given that they had more reason to be thankful to her than most of us did, you'd think they could have dipped into their deep pockets and chipped in for her farewell too, wouldn't you?
I'll gladly round my contribution up to a shilling for a written guarantee of no resurrection.
If I'd have known it would only cost 2p to bury her, I'd have coughed up 15 years ago.
Gromit...LOL !
glorifying the death of an old woman, no matter one's politics why would you.
he is now a multi millionaire, with 7 or is it 8 homes now, with fingers in more pies than jamie oliver.

it is correct that close to a million was spent on the police, probably thinking that this would kick off into an unedifying scrum.
the price is now given at £3.2 million - costs spiralling out of control, same as the Olympics

So you could say the biggest cost was caused by lefties not wanting to recognize other peoples views.

Except that it never happened.

So the biggest cost was caused by groundless rightwing paranoia about the lefties getting out of hand. The Tories will spend a fortune (not their own, of course) protecting their property rights against their own worst fears.
actually, although I said I would have preferred it to be spent on something else, if it served to annoy a load of sanctimonious lefties, it's probably money well spent.
no, no, ludwig, we lefties think it money well spent.
I can think of quite a few MPs I would happily contribute to their funerals.
no i wouldn't, that is just petty, like some of the comments.
i just disliked her because she made me bitter and twisted towards her. and i'll have my money back and all the 2ps my family have contributed too.

This is a true tribute, for one Lady to have this much affect on the left,
so long after her time as PM just endorses what an effective PM she was!
Effective was she ? Well, she was effective in putting millions of people out of work, I'll give you that. Not something that her supporters like to talk about though it would seem. Wonder why !
Not gonna get into any arguments about Thatcher, but that woman and her cronies virtually destroyed my area. I seriously don't think it will ever recover.
