Shouldn't this footballer have received a more heavy sentence due to him threatening to kill the referee's wife and children?

I thought this necessary since we hear so much of racism committed by whites, level playing field and all that.

Can you send us a link to a similar story about an Asian being abused by a white racist together with the sentence he or she received, in order for us to establish the levelness of the said playing field.

If you can't, then we can only assume that this goes some way to prove that the courts treat racism as racism and people who complain that "it's only whites who ever get accused of racism" might be a little...

Good I'm glad he's been jailed. He was out of order to a massive degree. Racism is not as you rightly identify a one way street, but like Sp I am unsure of exactly how level the playing field is. since you must have taken considerable effort sourcing this story I too imagine you have come across many more relating to the victimisation of non white people by white people. Care to share a link to any of those?

Yes there are many reports of racism committed by whites against blacks, not so much against Asians because of the fact that there are not as many Asian footballers for some reason as blacks.

These racism incidents have been widely reported on AnswerBank, take the John Terry affair for example.

Taking this story for instance I can never remember where a black player, or a white player has threatened to burn down another's house and also kill his wife and children, and that is what makes this news story unique enough for me to post on it, nothing more and nothing less, except of course that one never seems to hear of any black player being imprisoned for being racist on the field, but if you care to supply any links that prove me wrong, I am prepared to withdraw that statement.

Can you also convey to Sharingan, that contrary to her statement "since you must have taken considerable effort sourcing this story"

Please inform her that it does not take any considerable effort on my part, it just takes one to read the news that is daily printed in some newspapers.

But if she doesn't care to read the Daily Mail, it is also published in other newspapers, but I must admit such a rare occurrence doesn't always reach some papers for some strange reason, so this is the best I can do.

If this story is unique, then by what measure do you think the player should have faced a heavier sentence?

It's for you to provide evidence of a white player jailed for racially abusing a non-white player, because it was you who brought up the 'level playing field'.

Also, remember - John Terry wasn't found guilty was he?

AOG, it would help if you looked up the law before asking a question based on ignorance. There is no basis for charging this man with threats to kill and the sentencing will take no special account of any such threat. As one old judge drily observed "If we were to take the statement "I'll kill you, you bastard" as evidence of intent, the courts would be trying attempted murder for every assault on a Friday night!"

It is gratifying that you wish us to take note of an "Asian" committing the offence. Why did you think it necessary or desirable to inform us, though? Did you think that we were not aware of such conduct by other races? Did it come as a surprise to you?

Read the statement I made above, "simply because this player threatened to burn down another's house and also kill his wife and children".

Threatening to kill someone is a very serious offence.

If you first check what is put, before leaping on every chance to have a dig at me, you wouldn't have failed to notice that sp1814 first entered the word Asian and I was merely answering him.

Threats to kill can be an offence, AOG; the maximum is ten years' imprisonment; but , for the reasons given above, this man has not committed it. Such threats are made all the time, but they only very rarely amount to that offence, any more than they make an assault attempted murder.
