Good result Mr Corti but a pathetic sentence of four and a half years for the very serious offence of aggravated burglary (armed).
"[the burglar] denied the charge and claimed he could not remember what happened." Not surprising after he'd been clobbered a couple times.
Good! Burglary is a detestable crime.
Couldn't recall :-) Yeah well the defence was going to work, must've fallen down the stairs and got dragged in ;-)

There again perhaps he was sloshed out of his head. He''ll try not to do that again then.
The blow must have really hurt, but hopefully his fist isn't too sore.
Good match Mr Corti ! I would like to invite him to my area, to deal with our home-grown criminals.
This one is a home-grown criminal, isn't he?
Jimmy Wilde "the ghost with a hammer in his hands", was a world champion flyweight. When in his seventies , he encountered a youth trying to steal his bike and promptly knocked him out. That, and the behaviour in the reported case, ought to be encouraged in pensioners.

I'd love to agree with that, but I fear in the majority of cases a pensioner taking on someone in their twenties would come off worse so I wouldn't encourage them to try it. Good luck to them if they do though.

my dad had a similar experience, he was 74 and 5 blokes came into his shop kicking off, one of them grabbed a broom and kicked the end off and raised it to my dad .. my dad grabbed it and punched the lads head in - he hit him that hard and fast that he broke his own hand.

the other lads just stared at him and crapped themselves ... they eventually ran off ... just as my brother came out with a bat.

my dad used to be a boxer though ... he was a bit of a hard man and a sort of bodyguard in his day

i agree though ludwig, in general they would come off worse
surprised no one has said, wonder if the burglar will sue, seeing as how the pensioner has taken the law into his own more than capable hands. I would give him a medal.
// my dad grabbed it and punched the lads head in - he hit him that hard and fast that he broke his own hand. //

That's terrible. I hope it healed up quickly.

thanks ludwig, it is ok now - this was about 10 years ago, but at the time his hand went all purple and sunken and withered looking for quite a long time, it was worrying that he wouldn't regain proper use of it. thankfully he did.
Emmie - He had a knife. Smashing him over the head with a weapon would be reasonable force.
