It surely depends on what the new evidence is. If it overturns the current story and finds someone new to blame, correctly, for the death, it should matter that the story comes out. Otherwise that person (or people) would have escaped justice, which is surely even worse?

Sounds peripheral. Perhaps the poor woman's phone was being hacked, or there is evidence of perjury or interfering with (British) justice.

While it's distressing to rake it all up IF there was some underhand factor then someone should be brought to justice. Her death, likes JFK's, will continue to cause conjecture until the truth is known, so probably always.

The Times is now reporting that the information "is believed" to have come from the parents-in-law of a former soldier who had claimed that the Princess was killed by a member of the military.

Well, maybe the age of the truth will out will change things for the better, stop certain things being swept under the carpet and turned a blind eye to by the people in the know, like Operation Yewtree enquiries, and encourage the behaviour to repeat itself.

Much as I'm a believer that there are some things I'd rather not know there is benefit in certain things not being covered up and guilty parties being able to get away with crimes, I include the phone hacking scandal and the way some of the gutter press operate in that.

i honestly cant believe all the people that say ''let her rest in peace'' and ''why drag this up all again''...if new evidence has come to light that 3 people were murdered,yes 3,lets not forget the driver and dodi fayed too,then they should be caught and tried for murder...its called getting justice...and im sure all families involved would want to see that for their loved ones..

agree with stokemaverick, you don't stop investigating unusual deaths just in case it upsets people. If they've got evidence (though it sounds rather third-hand) it should be looked into.
