Anyone else watching Sky News at the moment, a bad pile up (100+ cars) on the Sheppey Bridge

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think issues such as appropriate speed, stopping distance and generally driving to the conditions of the road could be a factor, the fact that there is a general speed limit, stopping distance etc... doesn't mean it is appropriate in all conditions such as if there was fog where visibility is reduced.

I've just seen some photos from someone who was involved in this.
There is a group of people stood in glorious sunshine, yet when you look further into the picture you cannot see the end of the bridge due to fog.
A sudden thick fog can easily appear from nowhere and drift across the bridge with no warning.
I'm not suggesting that all the drivers are blameless but knowing the bridge and the peculiarities of the weather there it is easy to be caught out.

Not looking good, but what the heck has an 80mph speed limit got to do with it?
It would not have made one iota of difference. People drive at that speed anyway; get real.
It's prats that refuse to use their lights and drive at inappropriate speed that cause these things. Floozies in short skits dont help of course!
