He may well have a valid point about the Murdoch vendetta which her perceives was the match that lit the proverbial blue touchpaper, but -
what Mr Huhne appears to have trouble understanding that the 'vendetta' uncovered wrongdoings - his wrongdoings, and without his wrongdoings, the papers would have had no story to run.
So perhaps if her were to switch things around - 'I behaved appallingly and the papers took their perceived revenge, and I am ashamed of what I have done', would sit a lot better with the public than - 'The Murdoch papers were out to get me because I was nasty to them.
One position makes him look like he acknowldges his wrongdoing and appologises for it - the other makes him look like a mealy-mouthed self-centred bnlame-shifter.
