In 2010 “Mad Cap’n” Tom Scott stood in the Cities of London And Westminster constituency on a manifesto which promised to abolish tax on rum (revenue from which would be recovered by a 50% levy on all downloads of Cheryl Cole music) and fixing broken Britain by handing out free rolls of duct tape.
Lord Biro (aka Dave Bishop) has campaigned and stood in the past four General Elections.. Among hi s promises were to preserve all public lavatories and give official support to have Bono appointed as the next Pope.
A gentleman named John Crockford stood for the Fancy Dress Party in Dartford, Kent.
I have not checked, but I believe all these candidates lost their deposits so Mr Clarkson is among good company. Should he stand in my constituency I might well be inclined to give him my support as he reflects my point of view on many topics far more closely than any politician from any of the mainstream parties does or is ever likely to.
