This survey was carried out among the young, I would think that the figures would have been much higher among the more elderly.
We all know that it is only a small minority of Muslims who commit such horrendous attacks such as 'The Twin Towers' 'The London Bus and Tube Attacks', 'The Murder of Lee Rigby' and more recently 'The Kenyan Shopping Mall Terror Attack', and 'The attack carried out on the Christian church in Pakistan'.
But are these not sufficient to instil fear and mistrust?

///A 20-year-old woman who asked to remain anonymous told the BBC she fears and dislikes Muslims.
'When you hear about terrorism, more often than not it is Muslims that have carried it out. I just feel they're all out to do that, they're all the same,' she said.///
Clearly that is very unlikely to be true as it is a blanket generalisation
as is the headline in this OP
However, the purpose of the survey is to gauge people's beliefs and fears regardless of whether they are 'Right' or not
A minority of Muslims have singled out Muslims as a group from all other immigrant groups by enacting destructive behaviour based, not on social or even racial issues, but on fundamental differences in beliefs and values.
The only comparison i can think of is the IRA. The difference there is that it wasn't about fundamental differences in belief and values, it was a far more familiar nationalist struggle about who governed a particular Region.

But do you remember a time when you could watch the news WITHOUT the mention of Muslims or Islam (and usually in a negative sense).
Over the last few months it seems almost compulsory for the TV news media to include one or more news items about Muslims and Islam, and often it is about terrorism, murder, bombs, blowing up planes, attacking embassies, arresting potential terrorists, Muslim protests on remembrance day, wearing face veils and so on.
In fact I cant remember the lest news I watched that DID NOT include a negative items about Muslims and Islam.
No wonder people have a negative view about Muslims and Islam.

there doesn't seem to be just a few zealots though, when you look at the world map and the bombings, suicide missions, kidnapping of foreigners to hold to ransom or kill simply for being westerners, Pakistan, Kenya, Somalia, Afghanistan, India, Syria, Egypt, currently.... then the outrages on US, British shores, i am well aware that some use the excuse that we
as westerners should not get involved in their affairs, and i would say i agree. However we have been are asked for help and give it,
find we are piggy in the middle. They take their hatred out on us...

I know many muslims, as colleges (one was an Imam I traveled extensively with) and friends and yes some have been round my house.
It is not the religion that is the problem but thise that have hijacked it for their own purpose. Every Muslim I know is just as fearful of these people.
But it was the same with the Irish as far as the UK was concerned, but again I had plenty of Irish friends - and still do.
Big difference between the two was the fact the Septics funded the IRA!
