Additionally, he is facing a storm of criticism after it emerged his children's nanny lives in a taxpayer-funded apartment in the Houses of Parliament.
Anyone in the outside world taking on a live-in nanny has to cover the cost of their accommodation and bills, so why should the Speaker be any different? He is extremely well paid and already enjoys a number of taxpayer-funded perks.
It is surprising that in this current climate he cannot cover the costs from his generous salary without resorting to taxpayer aid.
It is indefensible really that thousands if not millions of people who have childcare costs themselves have to fund the privilege of a flat and all the expenses with that.
The TV incident does, I believe, go back to 2009, so it's hardly news. The speaker has, by right, a 4 bed roomed apartment in the HoP. I suppose he has quicker access to parliament and sees more of his children if his nanny stays there.
As taxpayers we fund his extortionate salary anyway so what's the difference if he gets a new TV on expenses ? I've a bigger problem with his incompetence, at least while he's watching telly he's not talking!
Politics should never have been considered a career. Soon in the next 20 years and hopeful illy in my life these heads will roll. November 5th is coming soon ;)

The people should not fear the government the government should fear the people. This makes me really excited and I can't wait me and my OH have booked a ticket
I don't like the guy, but isn't a television set, with its coverage of politics, more like a 'tool of his trade'? It isn't like say a refrigerator (or a floating duck-pond).
// You can't castigate a bloke for not breaking the rules. //
You can castigate him for being a greedy b&strd though.
I don't know what the arrangement is, but if he gets a furnished flat as part of the job, and the TV is part of the furnishings, then I don't see a problem.
If he tries to take any of the furnishings with him when he goes, then he's a greedy b&strd.
I would hope a member of parliament would have access to political goings on far better than what is reported on the TV. I can't see it being a tool of the trade, but maybe a small set in the office for when folk rush in and say, "Have you seen what is on air !", may be justifiable.
Funny how many people still don't realise that under a Tory Government the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, so there is nothing surprising about this "News".
