Yes, there are good Christians (and Jews, and Muslims). But most of the biggest churches and faiths are run by intolerant bigots who spend far too much time deciding who to hate ///.
/// Or in the case of the Catholics, bigots and pedophiles. ///
Double standards shown here, apparently this columnist seems to think that he can say what he likes about religious persons, just as long as no one says anything bad about Gays.

You asked how anyone could know they were Christian.
The incident happened in Kansas, and the diners were white.
Also, Dr Marvin Baker, who has worked as a pastor in the local are 'for many years' referred to them as Christians.
True, they could have been a couple of white Hindus or Muslims, or Jews. But I think the laws of probability are working against us here.

Centuries in which you could argue that their time and effort may have been better spent elsewhere?

That is being rather derogative towards whites, what proof do you have that they were white?
*** The incident happened this week at Carrabbas Italian Grill, ***
They could quite have easily been dark skinned Italians, or even dare I say it? Black, seeing that there are many more black Christians these days than white Christians.
