BBC Driver, Facing A Trial For Child Sex Abuse, Is Found Dead.

What I find very worrying in this case, is that this chap had a string of convictions for child sex abuse but still managed to get a job at the BBC, where he may have been in contact with children. I'm not sure how recently he was working at the BBC.

There is also evidence that lots of people at the BBC were perfectly aware of what Savile was up to, over many years, but they decided to stay quite about.
Just what was it about Savile that inspired such fear and/or loyalty ? Even if you take into account the eye-watering amounts of money that this loathsome person raised for charities, I find it hard to understand why it took a year after his almost state funeral, for the truth to come out. The truth which is still appearing anew almost very day it would seem.
No connection has been shown, as yet, between David Smith and Savile, apart from the fact that they both worked for the same employer. But I just wish somebody could explain this Savile effect.

mikey, there are degrees of culpability: those who acted illegally, those who assisted in it, those who knew about it, those who heard about it, those who suspected it. And of course those who said 30 years later that they'd known there was something fishy about him all along.
Only the first, and possibly the second, could constitute a ring.
As for the rest, I don't recall hearing anything to prove anyone was covering up for him. Some of the investigationw as lackadaisical - but a lot of investigations are like that.

oh yes, you're right, hc4361. I was sure I'd read somewhere he actually drove Savile.
So even less of a ring, then. Just a lone paedophile (unless there's anything else I've missed). It looks as though taking the boy to White City was the only actual link between the offence and the BBC, and seemingly a tenuous one.

This is Saville's driver - a different chap
