The Scottish Parliament intends to lower the drink-drive limit from 80mg to 50mg. Delay in implementing this is allegedly caused by having to recalibrate equipment. The work is done in England. Do you think the limit should be lowered here too ?
The EU has agreed the Euroflush. The full flush of a lavatory is to be 5 litres, half-flush 3 litres and urinal flush 1 litre. . Modern British cisterns are 6 litre, older ones generally much more. We use more water for this than any other EU country. The decision was made after extensive research into eco-friendly use of water. Any comment?

The Scottish proposal would bring their drink-drive limit into line with most other European countries (irrespective of whether those countries are in the EU or not). The sooner it is adopted throughout the whole of the UK the better.
The 'Euroflush' proposal relates to a standard for manufacturers of WCs to be able to use an 'eco-label'. It's entirely voluntary and, as such, makes a great deal of sense.
The Court of Appeal often sits its only to announce decisions that have already been made, with the detailed reasons for those decisions following in printed form at a later date. As such, any broadcasting of the proceedings is likely to leave the public confused as to why the Judges came to their decisions, potentially reducing public confidence in our legal system.

The C of A doesn't sit simply to announce a decision. It hears the arguments and then decides that it will dismiss or grant the appeal, the full reasons to be given at a later date. That's a rare occurrence in criminal cases. It only happens when the Court has decided the result but think that the time has come to lay down the law in some detail, for the benefit of lawyers and judges in other cases; the Court is rewriting the textbooks, as it were. The resulting full judgment, carefully written, is then delivered later.

Drink-drive limit - thats 30 mg difference. How many drinks is that?. Would it be better to say 0mg and be done with it.
I'd say no Fred only because I cant see it working very well (thats all) too low- + I dont have all the facts so response on a whim. You'd have a % still thinking it was 80mg and people who are drinking already have difficulty counting! others would be jealous of those still getting away with DD and will push their luck. I'm probably wrong but I feel confusion may set in re what it is - 80? ..50? and guess whatever.
The idea is good perhaps if it is that 80 mg has always been a noncense and 50mg is good - its not sober but it will make a dramatic difference &save xxxxx lives/yr. I have my doubts. How have they come to this? Some drivers may even be more unsave because of the withdrawl symptoms and do not function at their best anymore when behind the wheel.
People are in the habit of driving with 80 so I think old habits die hard and drivers will still think 80 is safe - I have been driving with x drinks for years bla bla. I can see they will be hammered! by the cops. D Drivers will not be able to trust the info re safety.
I do want to say yes because I don't agree with reckless DD but I already know lots of people who DD all the time and never get caught. They will continue to take this risk.

No doubt they are praying for delays so that it doesn't happen before xmas but the pubs may put on transport and all is not lost.

quite honestly i would scrap the idea of drink driving, have a total ban on drinking alcohol if you drive, it's a minefield because one pint can affect someone, whilst some can sup several pints without it showing up on the radar. Mind you how many people get caught texting, using mobile phones whilst driving, and indeed go on to have an accident or worse
Lowering the DD limit is a gimick. Those that drink and drive are generally well over the 80mg, so all you are doing is hitting those that will try and stick by the law (what a surprise as they are the easy targets).
The Eu should take a running jump. They will do anything to ruin our economy and bring our country to its knees by drip dripping these pathetic and expensive regulations so Germany can achieve through stealth what it failed to do in two world wars.
