Surely these actions will provoke the hard line muslims and at best alienate the moderates and since it wont actually stop the explosion and its potentially devastating results, just what is the point?

Is it because we have ports and airports as choke points and they have a land border? A very long one?

Americans don't have much success keeping Mexicans out (hence some of them whinge about Mexicans every so often) so I don't see why Russia should do any better. Actual jeopardy of life and limb, for the Russians, so more at stake for them.
