I wish they would here in the UK, I do all my shopping with them, so much easier, no hassle with queues and cheaper, IMO.

It's about time we started treating Sundays like a normal working day. Anyone in Church can choose a different day.

weekends are like school holidays, a time when families can reasonably expect to have time together. That means postmen too. I worked Sundays for preference (fewer nosy bosses around, but no extra pay) but had no objection if others didn't.

That`s the way with the US though. You can choose the day of delivery. In the UK you are lucky if you get a rough idea of which part of the week something is going to be delivered - let alone a particular day. I`ve just discovered the the Amazon Collect+stores which is a brilliant idea. Now I don`t have to make sure I am here (which I probably wouldn`t be) when something is delivered.

Jomlett - I was referring to deliveries in general. I remember staying with my cousin in San Jose and she bought a washing machine. Not only could she pick the day of delivery but she was given a time. In this country, you wait ages for a delivery and then at best you are given a time frame of several hours that it should arrive in. I don`t know why this country can`t do better than that.

I buy from a UK website who have an excellent delivery process. They email when item is despatched, a text is received from the courier company at 8am on day of delivery with a one-hour delivery spot, with text options to change delivery date, leave with neighbour and a third option I can't remember. These larger companies should invest in the technology. Don't you just love the 7am - 9pm delivery time offered by Argos, I think. Very helpful.

237SJ, I imagine that at least in London, where about an eighth of the population live, it's near impossible to estimate delivery times.

I've just joined up for the 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, which guarantees next day delivery, after ordering some printer ink. I received a confirmation email from the delivery firm, then today a one hour delivery slot. They delivered exactly on time.

^^^ you do have to be in to take delivery but you can change the delivery date/time or ask them to leave with a neighbour.

what's the profit consist of, woofgang? I've never tried it as I'm home most days anyway.

P and P I would have paid on amazon or elsewhere or travel and parking charges if I bought in a shop. I do also pricecheck before i buy. When you consider that if I go to my local town to shop, parking is a minimum of 2.45 plus of course the fuel to get there, it all adds up.

you pay £49 for one day delivery for a whole year, plus if you have Kindle (I haven't) you can use the kindle lending library.

fair enough, I have free travel all over town so that's not really a factor. I don't think I buy enough from them to make the savings on p&p matter, either. Still, I see I should do some sums.

jno its worth checking what they do sell. I get my dog food from them, cheaper than from my previous supplier and it gets delivered regularly without needing to order, the heads for my electric toothbrush and my dental floss which is also hard to get locally, as well as gifts, books, and the "usual" Amazon stuff.
