A friend of mine was in Sheffield last week on business, and the people at the company he was at, were telling him, that the area mentioned below is worse than the media make out!

Top tip. Don't use the Daily Express as a travel guide.
it's odd, because sheffield speaks very highly of you
Why would they pay to produce this booklet never intending to use it?
What else are they spending money on never intending to use it?
What is it with the psyche of these council people that prevents them from realising that they are custodians of OUR money and should be spending it on useful projects?
Nothing more than Blunket has already told us, but the right-on brigade on here refuse to believe.
/// In addition, the local Pakistani community association is running ‘official’ warden patrols between 8pm and 10pm every weekday with the intention of ‘educating’ the Roma population about ‘how to behave in England’. ///

That should go a long way towards introducing a cordial relationship between the two communities.

According to Sheffield Council's 'selective licensing' report, most of the problems in Page Hall are down to the private landlords, these couldn't be Pakistanis could they?
And, AOG , if the landlords, good or bad, are Pakistani, what difference does that make?

No. Housing Associations. Making landlords police communities doesn't seem like a solution. If there is a problem with anti social behaviour, South Yorkshire Police should tackle it.

/// And, AOG , if the landlords, good or bad, are Pakistani, what difference does that make? ///

And isn't it mainly the Pakistani community that is complaining about the anti social behaviour of the Slovakian Roma residents?

So perhaps they should be complaining to their own kind to get it sorted.
AOG

It is the responsibility of the Police to sort out anti-social behaviour. Not landlords.
AOg, where does you belief that all the private landlords are Pakistani ("of their own kind") come from?

Only partly according to Sheffield Council, the Council have the responsibility to make sure their own tenants behave in a sociable way, and they have also set up a 'selective licensing' report, so as to have control over private landlords.
The main anti social behaviour in Page Hall is gangs of men drinking on the streets until the early hours.

No doubt bought from the local Pakistani off licenses eh, AOG?

....who in turn buy it from a dodgy looking bloke in a battered old white van.

Where does you belief that all the off licences are Pakistani owned ("of their own kind") come from?

Now where on earth did you ever get the idea that off licences are owned by Pakistanis?
AOG

Doesn't that area of Sheffield have a large Pakistani population?

And it would be fair to say that a large number of businesses are owned by Pakistani families I'm sure, like me, you are aware of the work ethic and family values of Pakistanis.

You didn't ask a question on this thread, but I have to agree with you. There are pockets of absolute grimness all over the country, as evidenced by a documentary on CH4 shown earlier this year called 'Skint'.

It's a completely different world...

There are some on the right on AB who constantly make snide references to us liberal coffee-shop Islingtonites, but to be honest, I'd rather live here, where the the biggest issue is our local artisan bakery running out of ciabatta on a Saturday afternoon, than some of the places we read about in these stories.

(Fully aware of how bad that sounds).
