Just to get the percentage figure of my Muslim/ immigration threads a little nearer to the 99% figure that Andy Hughes estimated, I just had to post this story. :0)

But jesting apart, this story is an example of what our young children are being brain washed into and all under threats of racism.

Why should there be a backlash, viv? Muslim children, believe it or not, are taught to respect the religions of other People of the Book (i.e. Christians and Jews). Whether it happens in practice is a different matter, but a bit of cross-fertilisation of understanding is no bad thing.

For as I see it my generation and the one directly below (now I am old) has

I like that children learn about religions, most of them enjoy it too. My kids primary school was a catholic one and when my son was in year 6 the local rabbi invited the class round to the synagogue to learn a bit about Judaism, the kids loved it, they had a thousand and one questions for the rabbi and had a good time.

Yes, baz. The whole point of the letter is that parents are responsible for their child's education, and must want the best record for their child. The idea behind mentioning Discrimination being on the child's record is to say "If you don't send your child, that's proof that you are racist (and your home is not an appropriate one, to that extent, for a 4-6 year-old to be brought up in)" It is not branding the child, who is innocent of racism at that age, and not to be read as intending such.

Your generation and the one below has made 'little progress' mamya because they remember a country where muslims didn't keep trying to rule the roost and ridicule our way of life. There will soon be more mosques than churches in this country and I, for one, being only 38, DO NOT like it and I empathise with the older generation, the majority of who do also not like it. If that makes me racist in your eyes (or anybody else's for that matter), I care not a jot !

Understanding others is not a prerequisite to adopting their beliefs and you cannot 'catch' a culture by viewing artefacts at a local university workshop.

Boy #2 goes to a C of E school and is going to visit a mosque and a Sikh temple after Christmas. I think it is a good thing, I want my children to know about and appreciate others' beliefs and understanding (none off my children are remotely religious but they are tolerant of others). PS - wish his trip was only costing £5.
