Pakistan has the bomb, Israel too. Why shouldn't Iran join the club?

I guess because every, untrusted to remain stable and sensible, country that gets this ability raises the risk more. The "superpowers" would have had enough sense to know not to use them as first strike, and to be very thoughtful about using them in retaliation also. I'm unsure the latest joiners or wannabe joiners to the club can boast the same credentials.

as has been said on numerous occasions, the others to my knowledge have never openly and publicy declared that they would use their nukes to wipe another country off the face of the planet.

The legitimacy of Israel is open to question, but that's a discussion for another day. Where and when did Iran state that they would use nuclear weapons to wipe it off the face of the planet?

The ending of sanctions against Iran means that their oil can be traded again. With oil production from Iraq and Libya the US were more dependent than ever on Saudi production. The biggest losers from the deal are the Saudis. And apparently they are not happy at all. Oil prices fell yesterday on the news of the deal.

Obama has always been a bit off message about Israel. But now he is not seeking election again, he can quite happily ignore them, and the jewish lobby in the US are stymied. Israel will be feeling isolated now that its best mate and benefactor is doing deals with Iran. But that is when Israel is at its most dangerous. The US and Europe are billing the deal as a triumph, so the Israelis won't dare to attack Iran. But I would be at all surprised if they don't launch a major offensive against the Palestinians or Hezbollah in the next few months. That is what they normally do when they need a ego boost.

as to Obama re-election that is still a way off, i am aware how long it takes for canvassing and once one election is won, then they start thinking, gearing up for the next, but 2012 he won his second term, so perhaps he is taking a little breather before going on the campaign trail

they dont need an ego boost, they do it to protect themselves

and as to launching an attack on iranian nuclear sites...they wouldnt hesitate

Ahmadinejad of Iran actually said he wanted to erase the name of Israel from the map. He made no mention of an attack with nuclear weapons, which was just as well, because they don't have any. Erase them from the map has many interpretations. It was clearly a threat, but Israel threatens its neighbours all the time.

That is my point. He is NOT seeking re-election, he is only allowed two terms and he is on his second. Which means the threat of losing the jewish vote at an election doesn't come into play.

Israel isn't really a sustainable state. Without the $3trillion given to it by the US, they would be as poverty stricken as the palestinians. I reckon they would think twice about pissing off the US if it meant they may longer get huge sums of cash to play with.

I said it has many interpretations. And it was spoken in Persia, and the translation into English brings in mistakes.

Ahmadinejad was quoting from an old speech by Ayotollah Khomeini from the 1980s in which he said in Persian “Een rezhim-i eshghalgar-i Quds bayad az sahneh-i ruzgar mahv shaved.” This means, “This occupation regime over Jerusalem must vanish from the arena of time.”

It was the New York Times who first mistranslated "vanish from the arena of time" to 'wiped off the map'. `In short, the widely reported quote is wrong and he probably did not mean a Nuclear attack.

What are you saying - that Iran only wants to peacefully merge Israel into a greater Iran? Think you'll find slight difference of cultures, democracy and sanity between theses two.

Also, a merger might not go down so well with other countries situated between the two.
