has died, apart from his friends family, will anyone mourn his passing...
the money they stole was according to the news, equivalent to 40 million today, not an inconsiderable sum, did it do them any good in the long term... being on the run, looking over your shoulder at every turn,

There's a lot to be said for the deep, deep peace of the double bed after the hurly-burly of the chaise longue. After a while the attractions of nubile dusky brazilians might pall.

He seemed to enjoy himself. Apparently he had no regrets...
A minutes silence at Football grounds this weekend??
Question Author
i would have thought so, as to enjoying himself perhaps he did for a time, but to not be able to see your friends, family back in UK seems a high price to pay. Not to say what they did was right..
Question Author
doubt that silence at the football grounds would be appropriate, not one of the robbers seemed to have really benefited from the crime.
It would depend on his personality. Some people can easily walk away from friends and family and not feel a thing.

The violence to the train driver apart, I have a sneaky admiration for someone who is a part of planned robbery of £40 million in today's value, taking a combination of ingenuity and courage.

Well, that is a matter of opinion.......rather than live a life of excitement an debauchery in South America, he could have chosen different life but within the law in a two up and two down in Rotherham and coming onto CB every day or indeed the smart@rses of News.

The "white knuckle ride" or the "tranquility" of AB?

I don't know.
There ya go. He said he had no regrets.
Question Author
where did he say that.... anyway the other men didn't enjoy their spoils.

he did have, not least the death of the driver,
squandered the money in three years, and then lived off his name, so it says

LOL....but i would like the chance to find out for myself.
" After a while the attractions of nubile dusky brazilians might pall."
When you are dead, perhaps, Sandy :)
Him saying he had no regrets has been on BBC news this morning.
Interesting timing. I expect he was looking forward to 'The Great Train Robbery' on BBC1 to-night.
Question Author
you have to afford to buy them goodies first, if you look like the back end of a bus and have no money it's unlikely he would have got anywhere near.
he did it on chutzpah, as he readily admits living off his name so presumably money and more came his way afterwards.

Sandy, I suspect it could take quite a while to 'pall'
;-)

Speaking to Nicky Campbell on Radio 1 in 2000 - before his return to the UK - Biggs said his share of the money had been £147,000.

"I squandered it totally - within three years it was all gone," he said.

Since then he had been "living on my name only," he added.

He said it was "totally regrettable" that train driver Jack Mills has been struck over the head during the robbery.

"I regret it fully myself - I only wish it would not have happened but there's no way that I can put the clock back."
Question Author
svek, unlikely he would have been watching he was way too ill...
Quite a strange coincidence, but perfect timing for the BBC.
Question Author
it does seem odd doesn't it..
