And before anyone says it - I'm not saying that Andrea Minichiello Williams doesn't have the right to her opinions, or that she should not express them...I'm questioning the validity.

...and also - is there any evidence to support her assertion, or is this just made up.
Stupid comments.

So what about all the heterosexuals that lost their fathers young?
As always, a daft religious comment, from a daft person. Tom should just ignore it, as we all should.
Doesn't work so well when there is a father figure present, does it?
These religious nutcases give all religious people a bad name. The lad should just get on with his life - life is hard enough.
Rubbish! But what is worrying is that people actually take notice of 'prominent evangelical Christians'! How many of the faithful will believe that now?
Every Dad dies.......

ummm

You know, I didn't even think of that.

During the first and second world wars, many men didn't return from the trenches...

And logic dictates that Britain should have been knee deep in gays by the middle of the last century.

And there's documentary evidence to suggest that there were only four gay men in the UK at this time:

Danny La Rue
Frankie Howerd
John Inman
Kenneth Wiliams

And there were no lesbians at all...they first appeared in 1978.
Now, now sp1814 ! You know its "women in sensible shoes" not lesbian !
I'm never surprised what judgemental religeous bigots write or say....God is love after all....
Just in case anyone thinks that America is the only one with nutcases, our very own Stephen Green of Christian Voice published a similarly vile article shortly after the event, which asserts that Tom Daley is seeing an older man to replace his dad:

Repulsive examples of humanity who are just fundamentally incapable of supporting their views. The sooner we're shut of them (and all religion) the better.
What really bothers me is not so much that people who are Christians/ religious might believe this, but that young gay/ bisexuals will.
Ummmm's comments are spot on !
Sounds like a disciple of Hoddle!
Its a strange sentiment, and bigotry seems to be driving the judgement.A member of the CoE General Synod too, no less.

Buzzfeed reported her as saying this;
"According to the news website BuzzFeed, which reported her alleged comments, she argued that it's a "big lie" that homosexuality is inborn and blamed the "lack of the father" and "sometimes a level of abuse" for creating homosexual feelings.

She reportedly illustrated this by pointing to Olympic diver Tom Daley who came out as gay earlier this month. She is said to have added that he is "loved by all the girls and had girlfriends" and had "lost his father to cancer just a few years ago"

Just seems a very odd, defensive and blinkered view of homosexuality, completely lacking in any evidence to support it.
"very odd, defensive and blinkered"...haven't you just defined religion ?

I think she could have argued that sexuality is a complex subject with some gay people always knowing they were gay and others realising at puberty.

I wonder whether she was 'preaching to the choir' - as this speech was given at a conference in Jamaica which is isn't exactly at the forefront of promoting gay rights?
moronic comments, they really should just shut up
My Dad died when I was 6 and my brother was 3. We're both straight.
