http://www.brightonandhovenews.org/2013/12/19/councillor-found-guilty-of-misconduct-for-saying-gollwogs-are-not-racist/26080

It appears in this one that this 72 year old Councillor said she thought golliwogs were 'nostalgic, not racist' and that she also dismissed complaints against a city for store selling golliwog place-mats as 'political correctness gone too far', is to undergo 'diversity training' (Brain Washing) since her comments provoked complaints from three people and the council's Black and Minority Ethnic Workers' Forum.

The hearing which took place behind closed doors lasted more than five-and-a-half hours and was attended by three fellow councillors and a number of senior council staff.

OTT or what?

After further research it would seem that Brighton and Hove City Council should first get their own house in order before picking on just one particular Councillor.

Baz, it was marked quite a few years ago - do I care - not one iota. I love my country and will always stand up for it and for those who do not like it the world is a big place take your choice.
We have to be careful to avoid causing genuine offence. We also have to be careful not to go too far when doing so. Like I said earlier, this woman was cleared of the most substantive charges -- and good thing too, she was giving an opinion as far as I can see. Not one I agree with, but an opinion that's a product of its time.

People who are in the "PC brigade" (there aren't many of them, but there are still too many) seem to want to censor opinions. That's a far cry from just disagreeing with them and trying to change people's opinions. There is a difference -- I hope that even those who are outraged about this story can appreciate that difference.
I understand what you are saying Jim and have always stated that everybody is entitled to their opinions but in the same vein I am also entitled to my opinion without being called a racist a bigot or a right winger.
Must add this has not happened on this post.

Rather a funny clip regarding White people being afraid of being racist, move the slider to 4 minutes into the video.

Regarding this black comedian Reginald D. Hunter, he was being interviewed and he said he is always being criticised for using the 'N' word and he went on to say that some black people use it as a weapon against white people has it gives them power over white people because there are certain things that black people can do and say that white people can't.

Speaks a lot of sense regarding racism does this black comedian.

It depends on what the opinion is, Brenden. Certain opinions deserve being labelled as racist, because they are. Others don't, so each should be judged on its merits, rather than just assumed to be racist just because certain words are mentioned.
What is your opinion of the post above yours then Jim?
Will we soon see a ban on, Paddy, Jock, Taffy, Sassenach, Yank, Frog, Eyetie etc.
What will happen to the Englishman, Irishman and the Scotsman? Will they no longer go to the pub together?
Answers please to , Gypo Graham-W.
I didn't think it was all that funny, but that said the relevant point in the video is a good one. My own experience would be with a blind person at University, who told stories about people at his high school saying things like "Nice to see you again Oh god I'm so sorry for saying that!!!!" and he was thinking "why? Perfectly normal turn of phrase," and stuff like that. Then again, children are immature, adults shouldn't be. But anyway, yes, you don't want to get to a situation where you can be afraid of what you say, a slip of the tongue and other such things. The point that some people seem to miss is that there is a half-way house. Be nice to each other, treat others with respect, don't denigrate anyone solely because of race, colour or creed etc., but out of your choice.
