That's a good one! - remind me who elects the Lord Chief justice and the rest of the judicary in the UK

Don't see how that would work unless the European Convention on human rights was changed which would take the agreement of all 47 signatories I'd think

That includes Turkey and Russia and Armenia and Albania etc.

Can't see that happening.

The Supreme Court is not bound by its own decisions,follow the principle of 'stare decisis' [all right, I had to learn the ruddy stuff, Latin phrases and all; may as well use it!]

In principle,I see no reason why we shouldn't treat ECHR decisions as the Supreme Court treats its own, that is treat them as of persuasive effect only. I can see a reason connected with the original agreement which created the ECHR
