How do you feel about this, when you yourself are penalised for wishing to take your children on holiday during a school term, when that is the only time it becomes affordable?

/// You don't like the idea of Pakistanis doing it and would have us believe that they are getting away with something because they are not white British but Pakistani.. ///

Believe what you want, but you cannot get away from the fact (but then knowing your slant on things, perhaps you would choose not believe it) if it had been a group of white British parents who wanted to alter the schools term periods, they would not have stood a chance.
There's no way you can state that as a fact AOG. As the government are considering allowing schools the ability to set their own term times, I would imagine that the pressure brought to bear by white parents was a factor in this. As well as black.
AOG, if a group, such as white British parents, representing the bulk of the intake, had wanted this and been aware enough to have asked for it, it would have been granted; it is perfectly legal and sensible.

But thank you for confirming your racial interest and grievance, which is what the Daily Mail was aiming for. It is always pleasant to have one's suspicions confirmed.
My grandchildren attend a school that has had a two week break in October for many a year. They still attend school for the allocated number of school days per annum.

Actually, it offers a lot of parents the opportunity to have a sunny break away from the UK before the onset of winter.

The only problem with the system is if you have other children at different schools who only take a week's break.
I'm glad no-one noticed my mistake

//If Lord Palmerston's reforms were later than 1850//

It was Lord Shaftesbury, of course.

I did hypo, but didn't want to point out your mistake!
Fred...."white British had wanted this and been aware enough to have asked for it, it would have been granted...." Laws/rules are not made to be broken by minority consensus. As a Pakistani school is able to make changes for themselves, it makes this action a racist issue, in their favour again.
It is not a Pakastani school it is a Church of England academy and as with ANY academy, it is free to determine when its terms begin and end so no law has been broken.
Tambo, if you can tell me which law is being broken, I'll agree with you.

I can't answer for rules. They are either contractual or not. If contractual, which term, express or implied. of what contract is being broken? If they are not contractual they have no force.
Incidentally, this was not the action of a minority, tamborine. It was action of 85 per cent. How do you make 85% a minority? Or are you making the indelicate point that a whole lot of uppity Pakistanis are taking over, the racist fear of so many, regardless of the facts in this case?
I am getting quite annoyed at seeing this misleading header appearing in latest posts.

School changes term time by adding a week in September and having a two week half term in October should be the title.

As long as the number of the days children are educated are fulfilled and if it suits the majority, then fine.

Yes, I can see a slight difficulty for Teachers whose children may attend different schools. It happened when I was at school , we has 'Wake weeks' when different towns closed down while the factories closed, Teachers sometimes suffered the same inconvenience then if they lived in a neighbouring town.
