Why should we be re-writing our gun laws just to satisfy a team of British pistol- shooting olympians? Are we really that bothered if we were to field a team at all in this sport? When Farage speaks, they praise him for his plain speaking and bluntness, which often distracts from some of the - sometimes unpleasant - nonsense he and UKip espouse. How anyone can take seriously a party leader that disowns his own party manifesto ( having signed the forward) beats me.
It is principally a single issue party, a reservoir for the protest vote, and by virtue of this acts as a magnet for some candidates with, shall we say- eccentric- views? I can see people wanting to have a pint with the guy, but the prospect of him having any kind of hold on the levers of power should worry anyone.

I am. Choice of sport is surely a freedom, but our sportsmen not only have to train abroad, it follows that they must necessarily buy and store their sports equipment abroad too. How ridiculous. As far as I’m aware ours is the only country, in Europe at least, that upholds a ban on owning handguns. If a ban stopped people getting hold of them and using them for criminal purposes, fine – but it doesn’t. Mikey bangs on about common sense as though only those who agree with him possess it, but I see none in that.
Mikey, This thread is nothing but a political swipe – as are most of your posts.

OK. I don't care in the slightest.Changing the rules on handgun ownership purely to satisfy the needs of a minority sport is what is ridiculous. And if we are the only country in Europe with a ban on handguns, so be it. This from a one-time target shooter too, handguns and rifles, in case you are wondering ;)

Oh, and there is nothing wrong with posting political swipes; Plenty of other posters here are more than ready to do the same against every party. Thats democracy for you :)
But it is particularly relevant to examine UKip closely, with their pretensions to power, and most especially at a party which attracts candidates with the calibre of David Silvester or Godfrey Bloom, or where the leader of the party freely admits that their most recent manifesto is rubbish and has torn it up!
UKip are the only significant political party going into the MEP elections without a manifesto detailing their political priorities and commitments, and we are supposed to take such a party seriously?

Mikey - //Naomi...there is no logic to think of ! I always use logic and rational when posting on AB, even though it is a rare commodity.//
The following is a logical fallacy called an "Appeal to consequences"
//do you think we should go down the same road as our American cousins, where millions of handguns are lying around in kitchen drawers ?//
Just saying :o)

naomi...I am merely pointing out that a vote for UKIP would be madness. In a week when Farage has admitted that the manifesto he fought under in 2010 was " drivel " ( his word, not mine ) and also a week in which he thinks it a good idea to bring back gun ownership, the people need to know what a complete shower they are.
But you are right...it is a political swipe, at idiots, for which I have no intention of apologising for !

Chris, :o)
Mikey, no one suggested you apologise. Anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot – allegedly – we know that. I would point out though, that we in this country have never had 'millions of handguns lying around in kitchen drawers', and whether or not the gun laws are reviewed, I can't see that changing. That's logical.
LG, //This from a one-time target shooter too, handguns and rifles, in case you are wondering//
I wasn’t wondering but since you mention it I do have to wonder why you at one time held the opposite view. I can only assume it’s now a case of I’m alright Jack.

naomi...a simple question.
If we were to have a referendum on whether to repeal the "Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997, which was brought in by the new Labour Government, about a year after the Dunblane incident. what do you think would be the result ?
Anyone else can answer this question as well.

Well, I don't know for sure either but my best guess would be that any referendum would very heavily defeated. Anyway, I am not really sure why we are arguing about this daft UKIP idea. They will never be in a position to bring forth any legislation whatsoever, about anything, as they will never be on power.
Anyway, even if the repeal of the guns laws were to make it into their Manifesto for May 2015, on his present form, Farage will be telling us all, in a few years time, that it was all a load of drivel.
The only use that I can see for UKIP is to take away votes from other parties, most of all from the Tories.

//Sportsmen training abroad isn't a particular problem - lots of our Olympians go abroad for their training. //
I imagine it presents a bit of a problem to those are obliged by law to buy and keep their equipment abroad.
LazyGun, that’s an insult to our sportsmen.
The voice of common sense, Mikey.
