In my opinion it was a mistake to state an interest in keeping the currency unchanged. An independent Scotland with its own currency would be the better choice, following the example set by several other European countries of similar population size and smaller, several of which consistently outperform the UK in lots of ways. However, I understand why this was the stated preference: Among those who are undecided and/or decided against independence, simply the fear of change is the primary motivation. So as to scare these folk as little as possible, best to suggest minimal change.

I think the fact that Scotland will not be able to keep the pound will sway quite a lot of Scots plus their part of the national debt will have to be paid. Not sure how it all works, but Scotland will also have to apply to joint the EU and pay their dues. I hope that there will be no split, how would the borders be patrolled, would immigrants be stopped from entering England and vice versa?
