It wasn't just a poor picture, it was a video. The driver explained several times that he was queueing in traffic and it was only when he refused to accept the ticket and demanded his day in court with the camera operator present that the council backed down. That's why it's news.

If this chap had been handed a parking ticket by a traffic warden I could see the point of the media attention; or had he been forced to go to court or even take it to appeal.
As it is, it's just a clerk's error, quickly rectified.

Some motorists may have valid criticism of the police/council but not this time.
More fool them then.
Nobody would pay up in those circumstances, emmie.

People don't like paying up when they know they're in the wrong.
I think this is just incompetence rather than malice.

jim, i expect you are right.

This is Giles' take on traffic wardens, and it's from 1960, so nothing's changed.
oh, so along comes Jim and points out what me and hc have been saying and suddenly he's the one who's right! Sheesh.

actually i don't really think that, i was just kidding, i would like to give a good boot up the derriere to some of the wardens i have seen, two who pervade the area. They sit outside a local pub waiting for the unsuspecting motorist to park 10 seconds over the allotted time, and whack a penalty notice on the cars, some who are blue badge owners, a number who are severely disabled, even an ambulance, going to a person who had slipped on the pavement,
Shocking.
But this story doesn't involve a warden.
head...brick wall, hc!
Question Author
go right ahead.
Traffic wardens are told to work on the basis of
'ticket absolutely everything however ridiculous and leave it for the motorist to appeal'.

They know that alot of people just pay up and don't bother appealing because of the hassle, so the council or whoever they subcontract the work to, make money. They've got nothing lose.

If they themselves had to pay a fine or compensation of top of refunding the money for every ticket they incorrectly issued, this kind of nonsense wouldn't happen.

ludwig, which is essentially what i was trying to say. that the motorist is being used as a source of revenue, in the capital especially...
Why on earth would a lot of people pay up if they knew they did not flout parking rules?

Glad this error got sorted.
there was no traffic warden

there was no traffic warden

there was no traffic warden
jno, chill....I think the thread has moved on to just having a go a traffic wardens....even tho the original thread mistakenly thought one such 'operative' was involved.
Question Author
i think some do for reasons already stated, that the hassle of it, time involved, and no outright proof they were in the right. I remember reading of someone who told the local council she was going on holiday for several weeks, but they either didn't get the missive or ignored it, her car was towed and crushed, not sure if i could find the link, but i should imagine she would have been rather annoyed...
Question Author
he still got a ticket, which he appealed, and won,
you might be right, Zacs. Perhaps all the wicked wardens are imaginary ones, who knows.
