I assume you mean that only "islamaphobes" will find anything wrong with this.
Question Author
No, not just them. This is a shameful business but they might go at this with an added relish.
TTT

I don't think sandyRoe means that, I think (and sandy, correct me if I'm wrong) that the Islamophobes have been starved of any anti-Muslim stories since their house paper (the Daily Mail) has been focussing on the floods over the past week.

I expect the usual suspects to be flinging themselves at this thread like luge contestants at the the start of a race

Sidebar - isn't the luge the most ridiculous sport ever? I mean seriously - what skill is involved???
Question Author
I'm not sure about the skill but they show remarkable courage. I'd not like to be racing down a steep icy slope on something little bigger than a tea tray.
Question Author
The sentence in the OP should read: Though I think we'd all agree he's worthy of censure. ^
Ok hope you will be satisfied..... I find their whole idea of marriage to children disgraceful, they obviously don't care about the laws of the country they are living in and should be stopped. Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

BTW, I would hate to be on the bottom of the luge, but then it can't be very safe on the top. I agree what a stupid sport.
I don't think it's anything to do with Islam? The problem is paedophiles.
I love the luge, it's the curling i don't see the point of.
Question Author
I don't think the girls father is a paedophile.
Curling demands high levels of hand-eye coordination. To get the brushwork just right.
It's the guy she married who is the paedophile.

Curling is a waste of time, frantically brushing ice seems like a waste of time.
The speed skating amazes me you think one is winning easily and then on the last bend he loses.
I take it back - curling is appalling. Crown green bowls demands a lot more skill.

Curling is basically what housewives from the 1950s did to keep their carpets clea...

Sorry...I've completely hijacked a serious thread.

I will bow out,
"She's a mature strongwilled woman" - who "fell in love" with a 26-year-old who was visiting Oz. Yeah, right. She's twelve, she's not even a stroppy teenager at that age. It's a sad story.
Question Author
The story is all the more poignant for anyone here in the UK who's seen the television adverts from a charity which tries to help 'child brides'.
SP, some of the junk written here - including the question heading - doesn’t surprise me – but that which comes from you does – and I don’t mean your references to sport.

Pixie, //I don't think it's anything to do with Islam?//

It is.
Question Author
Naomi, is this not the type of news story that some here in AB would go at with particular relish? How is the eye-catching headline junk?
Unless all Muslims are paedophiles, it isn't. Do the majority behave this way?
No, they don't Pixie, but Islamic doctrine allows them to. Don't forget there is no minimum age for marriage within Islam - in extreme instances babies can be married off to grown men - and regardless of age the moment a girl reaches puberty, Islam deems her a woman. Some of these fathers are pleased to marry their daughters, who would otherwise be a burden to them for life, to the first available taker. They say it's to ensure the girls' protection for the future.
A 12 year old is still a child for goodness sake, but then many muslim men view girls and women as commodities.

I think the luge looks too dangerous for me. I wish they would have an olympic event of racing down a snowy hill on a fertilizer sack. I used to be dead good at that.
Question Author
I still maintain that deftness with a yardbrush, as demonstrated in curling, is a much underrated sporting skill.
sandyRoe, see TTT's answer. I would hope that any right thinking human being would find this practice abhorrent.
Maybe so. But not all Muslims are paedophiles. Not all paedophiles are Muslims. It's a decision people have to take individual responsibility for. To allow them to hide behind a mask of religion is dangerous.
I don't think curling is even a sport, to be honest. I can see the natural origins of racing, jumping, shooting, fighting, thowing. But sweeping?!
