it won't be any different from the 100 they have had before, that might be an over estimate, but everyone says more or less the same, some are in favour some are not,
Parts of British society seems to be kept afloat by immigrants, such as the hospitality industry and the NHS. We may or may not now have enough foreigners but how would we have managed without them over the years ?
what we didn't, don't need is more p iss poor coming from the third, fourth world, sorry to be blunt, but you only have to look around you to see that.
and i am heartily sick of asking for something in English, and i don't babble generally, and not be understood.
I don't really disagree with you emmie, but if some people had had their way, there wouldn't be any immigrants in Britain today at all.

As long as our lazy, feckless, uneducated home-grown Brits continue to stay at home, watching the Jeremy Kyle show instead of working, we will continue to need the hard-working immigrant.
but some people dont want the country being lost to them , losing our identity and heritage etc etc

its all about numbers, but people like you seem to favour floods of them !
many of my early teens, into twenties, friends were born and raised in the West Indies, they came for work, found it and settled, until work took them elsewhere. I do know, however much has come unglued since that time
mikey, i also think that is a media, newspaper make up, of our feckless British, if you really think that then why have we more people in work than ever.
Why are there so many Poles, etc working in Britain today, when the vacancies that they were able to fill, quite easily, could have been taken by our long-term unemployed ? On the council house estate where I live, I am surrounded by fit and active young men, but hardly any of them work.

Near by, we have a huge Amazon warehouse. Its the size of a regional airport. And most of the staff employed there are eastern Europeans. Now I am not a fan of Amazon and avoid shopping with them because of the treatment of their workers but it doesn't seem to bother these immigrants from working there. Why can't the local unemployed get jobs there ? Might it be that they are far too comfortable, scrounging off the State ?

I'm more than happy for my taxes to go to help the old and sick but I am getting a tad tired of supporting the lager swilling, smoking, sperm donors that I am surrounded by.
Has there ever been a time when the majority of the British public wanted immigration, or more immigration ?
perhaps not, but we got it, and weren't asked. not that they should, but things that affect us directly seem to be shoved on to us whether we want it or not. Personally i don't care for much of what i see as dumbing down, millions of very poor folk, imported to these shores, have some taken the jobs the British won't do, maybe, but many i see around me are not in work, have no intention of doing so.
If Scotland get independence then will the millions of Scots in England come under the wrath of the xenophobes.
No canary, we dont want them already
i like Scottish people, have had any number of good Scottish friends, and visited Scotland many time, and i have never actively hated anyone,
this is a debate about immigration, don't label everyone as xenophobes.
one thing the Scots down in England won't be able to do is vote on Scottish Independence.
canary...I wonder if we will go back to those days in the 1940's when my dad first came over from Ireland, when boarding houses had signs outside saying :::: "No blacks, no dogs, no Irish" ? Perhaps we might find signs saying "No Scots"
that is if they are domiciled here, and not just on a jolly for a few weeks.
But emmie, if Scotland votes for independence, won't those Scots living here become "foreigners" and "immigrants" ?
seeing how mixed our nations really are, many English have Irish ancestors, me included, do you really think it's wise to suggest that we could go back to those days. Same for Scots, Welsh, English, - bit like liquorice allsorts.
Enoch Powell first invited people from the Caribbean to staff the NHS. As mikey says, what sort of mess would it be in if he hadn't?
