We discussed this on AB a few days ago and I expressed doubt if anything would come of this recent arrest by the French police. Well, they have now admitted that there was no direct link between this chap and the murders.

So, 18 months have passed and the French police still have no idea of who committed these four murders, nor any clues whatsoever.

18 months is'nt that bad.The Met Police still have no clues who Jack the Ripper was!!
If the murdered family's assets were frozen till the case is solved, that will either flush out the killer & disuade such murderers.

Mikey, according to the report they're saying their investigators were unable to 'establish' any direct links between the suspect and the events, not that there was no direct link.
" nor any clues whatsoever"

Are there any clues as to the killer or killers?

Several witnesses reported seeing a car speeding away from the scene around the time the attack took place. According to the British cyclist, this was a "green or other dark-coloured four-wheel drive car". Police say they are looking for a right-hand drive BMW 4x4. The BBC's Panorama programme spoke to a forestry worker who said he saw both a British car and a motorcycle, suggesting the killer was not acting alone. French investigators have released an artist's impression of a motorcyclist they want to speak to. The sketch was apparently not circulated early on in the investigation for fear the man would go into hiding. Police believe an antique 7.65mm calibre Luger pistol was used. Ballistics tests on 25 spent cartridges found at the scene apparently showed the same weapon was used to kill all four people. Mr Maillaud said the victims had been "targeted" rather than shot in a hail of indiscriminate fire.

The French police arrested someone who had no link to the events...its as simple as that. All that evidence that you have posted doesn't seem to have helped the Police to move this serious incident when 4 people were murdered forward one little bit.
Its far from 'its as simple as that', mikey. "The searches and interviews of the last three days have not enabled us to establish a direct link between the events of 5 September 2012 and this man".

It's plainly obvious that the (disclosed) evidence stated in the link has moved the case forward.
