Who the **** is Molly Smitten-Downs ? Actually, I really couldn't care less. I can't understand why this rubbish is still being foisted on us year after year. Could TV dumb down any further ? This makes On the Buses appear to be high culture.
At least we won't have to put up with Humperdink again.
I know Mikey can speak for himself, but it seems to me that he brought the subject up in order to chat about how crap the Eurovision Song Contest is, not just to be told to turn his TV off if he doesn't like it. I don't think we have a hope of winning. I haven't heard the song, though. The whole thing is a massive embarrassment to the UK, and we should leave it, IMO.
I reserve the right to evoke the Answerbank equivalent of Godwin's Law (Wogan's Law?) the first time someone mentions "political voting" or "The "Balkan Block Vote"

Must agree with mikey - she is from Leicestershire, a complete unknown singer/songwriter. She was on BBC breakfast this morning and as usual it is a loud "yorpy" song which we listened to for a short while then reached for the mute button. An awful song. Nil points!!!!! When will they ever learn its all political voting anyway!
I was so relieved that the baftoscbritemmies were over that I took my eye off the horizon and didn't spot this one coming. Thanks for the warning Mikey, we are about to go into TV lockdown..
Agree mikey, but we do seem to put up with lots of this type of cr*p on TV - Strictly, Dancing on Ice, Big Brother, "Celebrity" Jungle thing, the Voice etc etc. Could go on but the whole thing bores the s*it out of me. At least Eurovision is only on once a year for which we can all be truly thankful.
Gromit - "I like the daft criteria for Europe. In the past, Israel, Turkey and Azabajan have won the contest. Morocco were in it for a few years."
The criteria for entry is not being part of Europe.
Entry is invited from any country that receives television from the Eurovision group of transmitting nations, and they extend far beyond the geographical borders of the European continent.
That's why the competition is called 'Eurovision', not 'Europe' - the two are not related.
Given that political voting will be even more prominent this year -with the current European unrest in full flow, we cannot expect our entry to be jduged on merit.
But merit it does have - as a Eurovision entry it is far more suitable than the last two entries we have submitted - be interesting to see how it stands up.
cloverjo; why is it an embarassment to the UK? That can only be the case if the contest were taken seriously and not seen as the joke that it undoubtedly is.
Andy-hughes...I seem to remember all those boring programs on a Saturday night, to choose the British entry were called A Song for Europe, not a Song for Eurovision...but a minor point I must agree.
Cloverjo is quite right...it was an attempt by me to stimulate debate about the Eurovision Song Contest itself. I have just come in from work and the vote of the AB jury, at least, is very low points, if any at all. But there must be someone out there that likes it surely ?
