Absolutely.
I used to live near Peckham, which I always thought was grim, but New Cross which is one post code away, I always thought of as 'asperational'.
Effectively, the only real difference between the two areas was that one had a train line which would take you to London Bridge in under 10 minutes.
I feel the same about Bethnal Green (lived there, loved it) and Hackey (lived there, hated it).
Out of pure snobbery, nothing else.

Slightly tricky.
One shares one's BN2 postcode with an area described by Wikipedia as "one of the most deprived places in Britain". As do the very middle class residents of Rottingdean.
So, on the whole, one tries not to mention one's postcode.
I suppose it could be worse. BN1 takes in the bandit country of the London Road, and the wilds beyond the A27. If I lived in BN1 I would have to be a student, a gangster, or Polish. At least living in BN2, everyone just assumes I'm a lesbian.
If I was a postcode snob, I'd move down the road to Hove, and get myself a nice, middle class BN3. When I'm ready to wear beige clothes and shop at Marks and Spencer, then I'll move to BN3 (ha ha, not really ... I would NEVER move to BN3 ... they would have to drag me there in a bath chair!).
