Sellotape At School

Can't believe the school incident hasn't been discussed here!

Does anyone feel the teacher should be sacked for doing this?
I can't help thinking it was a last resort to carry out this foul deed! I suppose she could have gone to the headmaster, but if think she should keep her job.
What do you think?

Foul deed ? I attended this school in the 1960's. It was called Williton Secondary Modern School back then and we had the cane if our behaviour was bad enough ! So a little bit of sellotape doesn't sound so bad to me, although its probably not the best way to maintain discipline.

Just because it doesn't sound bad to people who had to endure the cane...doesn't mean it isn't bad in 2014...

She did it to twenty kids she shouldn't be anywhere near a school.

Do you have grandchildren in school? Would you be happy for them to come home and say that they had their mouths sellotaped? I don't care how stressed she was, pretty sure this is classed as assault.

No it isn't , we teach our children about appropriate and inappropriate behaviour and this is wholly inappropriate.

I never had the cane but I was slapped a few times however even when the cane was acceptable sellotaping mouths wouldn't have been. I think she flipped but I still find the parents going to the paper distasteful.

She clearly has no idea about discipline, so shouldn't be a teacher, anyway.

Ridiculous response, if the child was mine, no press, no compo, a visit to school and get it sorted pronto - just as I did whenever required.

May be a group of children but takes only one to bring it into the limelight, needs nipping in the bud without the full glare of publicity.

The kids were being interviewed on the radio this morning. Whatever happened, the teacher was bang out of order.

In my old school in the 1950's some teachers used to make you stand on your desk with your mouth taped shut if you spoke in class without putting your hand up to ask permission to speak first. Then they pointed out the old hospital over the fields, that we all knew was the local lunatic asylum, and said speaking without permission was a sign of mental illness and that was where you would be sent.
They also had their own way of dealing with what we now call 'attention deficit disorder' you were made to sit in the front row where the teacher could hit you round the head with a 5ft long wooden blackboard ruler as soon as your attention wandered.

If she had a meltdown then she is clearly unsuited to teaching. I certainly wouldn't be saying 'hey, but we all have our moments'. Although I think blabbing to the press was inappropriate.
