Does anyone agree with me that unfortunately we are seeing a noticeable deterioration of the news section?

What can we do to restore it back to how it once was?

Dear AOG,
Yes I agree with you. Bye the way you have submitted 50% of the recent posts since 08 Mar :).

banish carping leftwingers?
Although we, as ABers, do not create the news, we do have the ability to report it here, and to offer our own incisive comments on the world's fads and foibles. We must therefore be more aggressive in searching out only the most interesting, the most controversial, and the most worth of discussion reports, no matter how obscure, or seemingly irrelevant. That will surely prevent us from going to sleep whilst we are waiting for something that is really newsworthy to come along. So, fellow ABers, go for it! Dig out those news items and present them here, that the rest of us may dissect them and offer our valuable advice to the world's leaders!
I haven't been active on AB for very long, so I am not sure what it used to be like. I would certainly agree that it has become the default place on AB to debate politics, and I have done my fair share of that ! Perhaps we need a separate place to have these debates, rather than the News section.

Discuss !
and remember - the more you link to the Daily Mail the more it costs them!

So help drive them out of business, provide a Mail link today!
... and if all else fails we could just make up stories. Not that newspapers would do that.
i couldn't really offer a particularly researched view as i hardly ever come into this section mainly because someone is sarky at you, seems not to really actually want you to answer their question, or just posts the "same old same old"

Yes but only in what now seems a fruitless attempt to inject a little life back into the section.
I disagree. There are still people posting badly worded or sensationalist questions, still people posting links to things they haven't read properly, still people posting questions which are easily refuted by simple research. So.....plus ca change.

You forgot to mention asking for solutions to crossword puzzles, technology questions and the price of a pint.
I did. But as my link to the price of a pint was in a NEWSpaper I thought it was the right section. I forgot your position of News Police Chief and sincerely apologise.

That's the ticket pusskin, that is what it is all about, a pleasant and enjoyable leisure pursuit.

Only a light hearted dig Zac, nothing more.
Likewise.
I enjoy reading the news section, occasionally dip my toe in and after I've hit submit, I wish I hadn't.

Reading some of the light-hearted banter between posters is good fun, but when it turns into a slanging match, it's not pleasant reading at all.
Dear AOG,
Well done for attempting to enliven this section and for your taking my comment with the humour it was sent but I think you rather asked for it.
Problem appears to be a EU support of Ukraine. This nullifies EU hate mail as Cold War seems not to be over. Can't knock Angela Merkel (don't mention the war). Also, everything going wrong for Cameron & Osborne so no chance to knock the few left-wingers on ab or even ban these evil lefties from the site.
Best Wishes AOG in your campaign,
SIQ.
PS: Wow jno, great advice re Mail.
A deterioration in what respect, AoG?

And when was this golden age to which you wish the Newsbank to be restored?
