But all this is relative- someone in a third world country would probably not understand why anyone feels here feels the need to earn more than £10 a week

I suppose if you have job insecurity because the bank that employs you is so incompetent that it is going bust, or faces a huge regulatory fine, or it has spent the £Xmillions of bailout money it got from the taxpayers a few years ago, then you need a regular £1million plus, so you are able to sleep at night.

Whilst he has a valid point, I don't believe his "sympathetic bankers" are likely to remain so if he points out they have a "ludicrous mindset".
The reality is that money needed for personal use is not going to be anything like £1M a year. It's the idea that those lucky to be in a position to demand it gradually cease to realise they are taking more wealth than is reasonable, which can only be done by others having less, and somehow think they are so important and so deserve it. Thus one of the many failings of the human mind.
