They plan to sell pints for £1.50. If you liked a pint would you travel to buy it at that low price or is the convenience of the local more important?

I don't think I'd use it. Besides our regular pubs we only use other pubs for food. It would also depend on the quality of the drink.
sounds good to me. hark at that councillor.
If it didn't serve the beers I like to drink I wouldn't visit.

And in much the same way I avoid Wetherspoons I suspect I would avoid this pub and it's clientele.
been drinking pints for a pound for ages at home, why pay £3.50 down my local for a pint when i can get 4 cans for that at supermarket
I only drink Cask Ale and good quality Lager, plus an occasional good Cider.
Fosters and similar Keg Beers @ £1.50 Pint is not my cup of Tea (It's P*ss).
They will sell a very limited amount of Cask Ales but they will cost upwards of £1.50 a Pint.
I would much rather drink good quality Ale at a higher price in Cask Marque Pubs, and there are plenty around.
Wetherspoons sell cheap Keg Beer along with reasonably Priced Cask Ales, so not sure why we need these Pound Pubs as well ??

oh yeah
I'm not sure I understand your comment Svejk?
ditto
I think I do, but hey ho - with money tight this type of establishment will do well in a town centre location.
The Councillor`s remark made me smile "..effectively we are selling at a point where the quality of the clientele will likely match the price of the product on offer" It would be very 'blokey' I expect and I wouldn`t go there anyway because I drink wine when I go out.
Svejk, the pubs I favour are hospitable, community pubs where the landlord knows my name and my preferred drink, I simply don't like cheap, town centre drinking caverns and the crowds they attract.
I'm with you on that, Eccles.
as it happens, i dont use wetherspoons? myself. they're a bit too posh for my liking. ;)
Sweety, you have the same sense of humour as Mr Tilly. You do make me laugh.
wetherspoons have a good mix of clientèle and good atmosphere also no music which suits a lot of people and surprisingly too a lot of 18 to 30 years olds
I'm with redman on this one. Life's far too short to be drinking bad beer!
I live in the town, and I wouldn't travel here if I didn't. It's a ****hole. Remember the woman who stripped in the Jobcentre as part of the NekNominate craze - same town!

The Council are spending £38 million on regenerating the High Street This will be the second such project), and shops on it are closing at an alarming rate. There's more Charity shops than normal High Street shops. The main Post Office has been closed and shrunken to fit inside WH Smiths, and there are rumours that Primark are taking over the site. What was once a thriving market town (Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) is now a ghost town.
Do you live in Bedford, Stephen? You have described it perfectly.
