Hillsborough Remembrance In Liverpool 25 Years On
What are people's thoughts on what's going on in Liverpool this afternoon? Am I the only one who thinks it's all a bit over the top? Yes I know it was a terrible thing that happened but I just cant help thinking a lower key approach would have been better.

Sheffield Wednesday had not updated it since 1979 and were criticised for not acting on earlier crushing incidents there. Concerns had also been raised the previous year about crushing issues.

Yes I believe it is a bit over the top but as has been said it's not hurting anybody. It's interesting that the tragedy took place in Liverpool and that still the mourning continues. I wonder, had an identical tragedy occurred at the Arsenal or Chelsea, whether the rememberance would have been quite so prolonged and intense.

In 1981 at the same stadium during a semi final match between Spurs and Wolves there was a severe crushing incident in The Leppings Lane end, nobody died that day so it was ignored, there's a video on YouTube about it, can't post it from iPad sorry.
As for the memorial service, if it helps the families then so be it.
What I don't like is the fact that Liverpool supporters seem to think everyone likes them because of what happened.

A football disaster that's rarely mentioned happened at Burnden Park, Bolton in 1946, 33 died in an over-crowded stadium. My Father, lately returned from India went but seeing the crowds, he and a couple of his ex RAF friends decided to go into town for a drink. Amazingly, they knew nothing about it, no instant news then, and he got home about 7.30, my mother was convinced he was dead when he hadn't come home at the proper time. The match incredibly went ahead.
It saddens me that people still choose to believe the lies that were told 25 years ago, yes "choose to believe". These lies have been shown to be just that "lies"!
