despite "reports which claim he skipped over a barrier just after the half-way point" the Express offers no evidence at all for this. Are there really points along the route where not a soul is watching you and you can just go through a wormhole?

the evidence is the time for the second half, he runs the first half in over 2 hours and the second half just outside world record pace. Even the worlds record holder didn't warm up by doing a half first! Please!
you haven't answered my question, though: if he cheated, how did he do it without anyone seeing? The streets are jammed during the marathon.

no idea, i just know he found a way. what is your explanation?
explanation for what? The evidence suggests he ran a slow first half and a slow second half. It's unusual; but anything up to a million people watch the race. If not one of them saw anything wrong, I'm in no position to say he cheated.

I'm not saying he didn't - it might just be rubbish reporting by the Express, too lazy to find out who made the claims.
and a *fast* second half, obviously.

It's quite easy to cheat - if you're an also ran like this chap.
There is absolutely no way he could have run the second half of the race in 61 mins - and even if he did he deserves a slap for dumb pace judgment lol
Plenty of people stop along the way, to use the toilets , have a rest, get a massage or even drop out... One chap I knew stopped for a pint half way round for some reason. Would be easy to slip away.

Not saying this guy did though, seems a bit mean as he will struggle to prove his innocent
Running is a sport where you will simply not be believed for such "performances" like this. In a game of football even I might fluke a magnificent volley from the halfway line beyond the despairing dive of the keeper. Once in a lifetime.
But in distance running it simply isn't possible for a journeyman jogger to turn in a sub 62-min half marathon.
well, that's assuming he is a journeyman jogger. The Express offers no evidence for this either.

It's not unreasonable. I've done a similar thing with a javelin. The first throw went about 20 yards, but I was holding back. The second one I put everything into and it was just short of the world record.
..same thing with the long jump. First time I just about made it to the sandpit. Second time - 2 cm short of the WR.
If I hadn't been wearing the Batman outfit, I reckon I would have made it.
Maybe he can get a similar time on his next marathon??
Make him run it again next week and see what his time is perhaps?
I understood from the report I read (online somewhere, can't remember where) that in addition to the time differences that after the halfway mark some readings were missing from his record (I believe that all runners carry computer chips and their times are recorded automatically at several points on the course).
I've run this race a couple of times, if you're running the first half at about 2 hour pace then you are in the main body of runners, where it is very crowded at times and you feel that you are constantly trying to avoid being tripped up, so I cannot see any way in which he could have gone that fast over the second half whilst trying to weave through people.
That does sound a bit suspicious that not all of his times were recorded all the way through. In theory, I'm with jno, unless it's proven he cheated. TTT, are you saying it's humanly impossible?
seems unlikely he was able run it that fast.
