great link chrissa. thank you, AOG its because of these 3 young children that we are having any discussion.
I believe this woman had an older child who was not born with the disability that the other children had...but putting myself in her position, I don't know how I would cope.

Remember, she had one child with spinal muscular atrophy, and then she went on to have twins with the same condition.

It must've been heartbreaking.

no.

Thank you for reminding us about this story. It's been a particularly horrible couple of weeks in terms of kids in the news (the ferry disaster, the Sheffield house fire, and this story).

A timely reminder how ultimately lucky we are.
Actually Noodlearms, from me - yes.

I would feel a great deal less compassion for someone who (hypothetically) neglected their kids who went on to die.

The smoking/drinking/benefits issue wouldn't make me feel any differently, but child neglect would.
Question Author
'' claimed mental illness' or diagnosed with mental illness '' there is a difference.
You can't claim mental illness, noodlearms. It isn't self -diagnosed and while neglect through a mother's mental illness is just as cruel to the children, the reason is different and so the treatment is different.

Poor woman
yes I recall it well - husband abroad at the time

and all three kids had SMA type 2 incurable and - survival beyond twelve rare (ish)

at least she will get the psych tmt she deserves

Question Author
I couldn't care less what the mothers background is. 3 children are dead.
Cross-posted, anne- but similar point.
In theory, i would imagine a millionnaire would get less compassion- not more, but as anneasquith says, it's irrelevant to most people.
Some people are living with the most horrendous stress and I can understand how some people snap when they can't see an end to the suffering.

An elderly neighbour of mine is looking after his wife who has advanced Alzheimer's and neither of them want her to go in to a home but I really can't see how he can carry on much longer. I would fully understand if he could find a way to end her torment.
