Remember at the end of last year, when several news sources warned of the hundreds of thousands of Romanians and Bulgarians all champing at the bit to come over to the UK from January 1st?
"The labour force survey figures show that there were 122,000 Romanians and Bulgarians nationals working in Britain in March this year – a fall from 125,000 in December just before the last seven-year transitional controls were lifted on the new EU members on 1 January."
Our local 'village' pond is now ring-fenced with 6' high security fencing which is festooned with notices in English and Polish stating that all the fish have been removed.
Similarly all the decent Chub from my local river have mysteriously disappeared.

//So, broadly speaking, they aren't coming for 'our jobs'.// [because they are self-employed]
Is that said with irony? If not, a foreigner doing a job in the UK, self-employed or not, is still a job which would otherwise be done by a British worker.
sp !!!!!!!! What you seem to be saying is that Polish sign-writers are fulfilling a need for signs written in Polish, in the UK for Polish businesses, to be read exclusively by Polish speakers! I wonder is there is a big demand for this line of work?
Hi sp, sorry if you have made room in your house for the expected newcomers, I'm afraid you have sadly been let down, however keep the rooms empty you never know your fortunes may change in the not too distant future.
