Just had a news alert posted saying that eBay are asking users to change their passwords after a security breach compromised data in a cyber attack.
No idea of the scale, sorry.

Don't know how serious it is but thought it best to give ABers the heads up, just in case.
Apologies to Ed if the OP title is a bit OTT, been ticked off before for using the 'Breaking News' headline.
ChillDoubt thanks for the warning best to be safe than sorry
Well according to the radio it might be more serious than eBay are letting on and the hackers could well be privy to members personal details already and be selling them on as we speak. In which case I'm not sure what changing your password will do but I should do it all the same.
The hackers "compromised a small number of employee log-in credentials, allowing unauthorised access to eBay's corporate network", the company said.
And it was months ago !
. all over the news now - by the way thanks Chill doubt - and they are advising a change of pass word.

Pity I wuite liked 'my little pony' at least I could remember it
But the break-in was only detected two weeks ago!
Just a heads up...if you login to eBay (or any other site) with a userid based on your email address, make sure you use a different password for all your sites. If you use the same password/email combination, then hackers will try that same combination at other sites where you could possibly lose money (eg. If your Amazon account is set up with 'one click' to purchase items).

And here's a tip for creating 'difficult to guess' passwords...

Create a password which is based on an easy-to-remember phrase, like MjswPAisi1970

That phrase was 'My junior school was Peckham Academy, I started there in 1970'

Once you have that password, you can make it unique to each site by prefixing it with the name of the site you're logging on to, eg:

Barclays = bMjswPAisi1970

eBay = eMjswPAisi1970

AnswerBank = abMjswPAisi1970

Natwest = NWMjswPAisi1970
Thanks for the heads up ChillDoubt, passwords changed
Durrr...

That should read:

'My junior school was Peckham Academy, I started in 1970'

Incidentally, that's not my password, so don't try anything funny...
> Ebay users, it's that time again: change your password.

The online auction site has advised all of its users to change their passwords after a security breach.

The extent of the breach is unclear at this stage but the only reasonable response is to change your password, and if you've used it on any other sites change those too. It is likely that if you do not change your password, eBay will eventually force you.

eBay will send emails to all of its 120+ million account holders later on Wednesday informing them of the breach.
I have just changed mine.
Thank you for posting this info
if it helps ebay like most proper sites use one way PW encryption so even if they have the PW file they only have the encrypted version of the PW. How can you tell if a site stores your PW, simple, go down the forgotten PW route if they send you the actual PW then do not touch with a bargepole. I hope AB doesn't fall into this bracket!
Password changed this evening. I've been meaning to change a few and have changes Amazon, email account and a couple of others while I was about it. Yes all different passwords.
