Labour is currently on course to win next year’s general election because the UK Independence Party is hitting the Tory vote in key marginal constituencies, a poll has found.

A comprehensive survey by Lord Ashcroft, the former vice chairman of the Conservative Party, found a 6.5 per cent swing away from the Tories in 26 constituencies.

If the result is repeated nationally at next year’s general election, it would mean Labour toppling 83 Conservative MPs, Lord Ashcroft said.

It would leave Labour with a healthy majority in Parliament, potentially as large as 70 or 80 MPs.

David Cameron also saw his party’s share of the vote eroded thanks to Nigel Farage’s Eurosceptic party. //

I was just about to press the best answer new judge and then your last paragraph spoiled it. The last 6 years may have had little affected on you much, but I do not think that is typical. If people felt progress had been made, they would not be contemplating giving Dave and Nick the heavo oh.

All these political threads in the 'News' section, yet only two in the Politics sub section, makes one wonder why there is a need for a special 'Politics' sub section?

Ashcroft could be right because we Brits hate coalitions and pacts and unwritten agreements. They all result in weak government . The only exception is during a war when there is only one common aim but even then to achieve that aim a post war government is faced with the problems brought about by having to compromise with the smaller party. When that smaller party is a wishy washy party that can't get elected on its own it's a recipe for failure.
Labour and the Conservatives should avoid the poison chalice of coalitions . They don't work ! The EU itself is an example of a giant failed coalition .
Before you say it, I know there is no easy answer , but Lib/Lab and Lib/Cons pacts have never succeeded .

Wouldn't surprise me, I mean I can see a pattern forming!
Tories Win General Election, for the duration of their term in power the malcontents that support Labour continually moan about everything whilst refusing to accept that it was their beloved Party that caused the problems, almost bankrupted the Country etc during their previous Government.
So Labour win the next General Election, the rot starts all over again, and the build-up to the next Tory Victory is set in motion!
