I don't think it's true that wealthier people (always) live in areas with lower immigration, but I do agree that people with higher levels of education tend to go into skilled areas of the economy - which have always been much better at absorbing immigration. Low-skill jobs in Britain have been in decline for a very long time now, to an extent that they are...

According to the radio at the moment it's not just white people too
I don’t know what you think but I think people are fed up with immigration, they’re fed up seeing immigrants given free housing, they’re fed up seeing their hard-earned taxes being squandered on newcomers who have never contributed a penny to the system, they’re fed up seeing their towns transformed into something unrecognisable to them, they’re fed up seeing people who are clearly enemies of this country being indulged, they’re fed up being told what they can and can’t think, and they’re fed up being told what they can and can’t criticise. In actual fact the system that allows and demands all of this is fundamentally at fault, but taking all that and more into consideration, why are you surprised that the worm is turning?
Naomi 24 for prime minister :-)
It's the worrying trend that is leading to the worrying trend.
Absolutely right naomi.
Hear Hear naomi
Are immigrants really given free housing? I live in area that doesn't have a lot of immigrants, so don't see it, but I can't imagine that they arrive at a council office and are given the keys to a property for nothing.
Regarding Naomi's link about Abu Hamza, I think someone in the benefits office isn't doing their job properly. I thought that both spouses' money and capital were taken into account when claiming benefits. Regarding the second link, it doesn't say the immigrants got their housing free.

Interesting but unsurprising comments so far.

If you look at the data supplied by Natcen, racism seems to more on the increase amongst the less-well educated and unskilled, as well as older people. If immigration really is one of the main causes, does anyone have any idea why it isn't even throughout the age, education, and skill level ranges ?
Remember it is not just "white" people who are prejudiced.

Many Asians dislike Black people, many Asians (from one religion or group or caste) dislike other Asians, many Muslims dislike Jews and so it goes on.

I am sure some of the "white" people who come from other EU countries don't like other white people from EU countries (Poles don't like Czech or whatever - I don't know if that is true, just an example).

I happened to tune in to a local Asian radio station (by mistake) in my car a few months ago and they had a phone in about how you would feel if your daughter came home with a black boyfriend.

I could not believe what some of these Asian callers were saying about black people, terrible comments that certainly would not have been allowed on a non-Asian radio station.
I think, if it's true, Naomi must be right. Just looking at my own friends, family, acquaintances and clients (and they are decent people), racism is definitely on the decrease. The attitudes my grandparents grew up with, were so different from my children's attitudes. Partly, my grandparents were just not so accustomed to it, but multi -culture is so normal nowadays, if people are finding it a negative, there must be some reason.
Remember people only have racial prejudice when they are surrounded by other races/religions etc.

I grew up in North West London (Pinner/Harrow) in the 1960s and hardly ever saw a black or Asian person so could not be prejudiced (you cant be prejudiced if there is nothing to be prejudiced about).

I have moved away now but if I go back to Harrow now it is frightening how many blacks and Asians there are and you can almost play "spot the white person".

For "white" people who live there this can start to make you feel very prejudiced.
Cloverjo, //Government officials estimate that the cost to taxpayers of maintaining a single social housing unit was £620 a year, meaning that if each unit was occupied by four people it could have cost up to £8billion to house immigrants since 2001. //

Even if the occupants are paying rent, their homes are still funded by the taxpayer.
£620 a year?????

Sounds far too low.

Surely that is a misprint.
And these are the type of people who want to come here, riddled with Scabies.

I would take anything from the Guardian on this subject with a pinch of salt. The worm is turning against their right-on liberal readership and they are frightened the majority will take over.

Personally, I dont think racism ever went away from the 'wprking class' if there is such a think still. Working on building sites I have seen and heard things that would give many on here a heart attack.

It is also difficult, with the abuse of the term, exactly to define racism. Used to be easy whites and blacks, not so now though. I think you will find most people have the problem high lit by Naomi. And these are British people of all ethnic origins coming together, so is it really racism?

YMB...can I point out that the Guardian are only reporting this story, as are the BBC ::

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27599401

Neither the Guardian, nor the BBC are making these figures up. I expect that other newspapers will report on Natcen's findings this morning as well. So its no good trying to shoot the messenger again. Can we debate this survey's findings please, rather than try and fail to score party political points.
