The Queen is the utmost stickler for tradition - there is no way she would countenance abdication, or indeed Charles not succeeding to the throne.

So all those who are hoping for a leapfrog job are definitely going to be out of luck.

Charles must have very mixed feelings about becoming King. He might enjoy being King and being bowed and scraped to even more than now, but he would have to give up running his businesses, he would have to give up doing what he wanted to do and instead do what he had to do, and he would give up his privacy to a large extent. His eldest son would become Duke of Cornwall, so Camilla could not go on being Duchess of Cornwall. ( That would be Kate.) Charles can't be looking forward to whatever fuss there might be about Camilla becoming Queen - or not becoming queen.
