The Conservatives despite previously having a 16,000 majority were spooked enough to draft in 1000 party activists to work the constituency this week.
I have been predicting that UKiP will only win one or two parliamentary seats at the General Election, but will come second in a lot of constituencies. Last nights result seems to confirm that.

The Tories win its first by-election in 25 years...quite an achievement, although as the seat had a 16,000+ majority, it was hardly unexpected.
Credit to UKIP for result coming second, but its now obvious why Farage didn't stand in Newark. Never mind, he and Roger Helmer have the Brussels gravy train to fall back on.
