I wish they'd use more of our taxes providing people with shelter, care and medication/counselling, rather than sending it abroad. I can't think of anything more soul-destroying than having nowhere to sleep and no way of changing things. The problem is not that they look untidy- but that in this day and age we have vulnerable humans living rough, when a dog...

"When a dog would be rescued and sheltered"

Why bring dogs into it at all ???
I assume its the comparison/contrast re how we treat our fellow man vs pets.
I think the abused, neglected, tortured forgotten etc etc etc pets of the world would contradict that, if they could !
I'm certainly not saying dogs should be abused and neglected! But why should people be?
Would I be the soulless git to have these things installed? No, not for a million pounds. Would I want a lot of homeless people with some of their associated issues camping in my porch? No either. Horrible choice. What I would like to see is far more being done not to make the homeless 'invisible' to the rest of us,they are not things to be sanitised away from respectable society, but to actually actively help them gain proper, safe shelter and get help with health issues and addictions where they occur. Lots is being done but as Pixie said not nearly enough and it's a massive struggle back from the situation.
The social issues involved here are diverse and clearly do need to be addressed, but attempting to take the high moral ground does nothing to achieve that. People fall on hard times either through unfortunate circumstances, ill health, or because of ill-considered lifestyle choices, and as sorry as I am for them, realistically I wouldn't want to have to pick my way through rough sleepers whenever I entered or left my home - and I doubt many faced with that situation would either - regardless of what they say here. I would have no objection to these studs being installed outside my house if necessary.
Another good post Naomi, totally agree with you.
Thanks viv. :o)
