This practice has to stop. Here in the UK we do not live like this and we should not tolerate people who do or want to.
But as I see it there are a couple of problems here:
1) Many instances are not reported, so will this change - I very much doubt it
2) How many cases will go the full distance? With the lefty liberal handwringers and our right-on judges I really can't see anything but a minor handslap for most of the criminals.
3) If a proper sentence is passed, how long before the ECHR overturns it?

/how long before the ECHR overturns it? /
ymb how many of our recent laws are routinely 'overturned' by ECHR?

/I guess all is right for you then. What a surprise. /
sorry to frustrate your attempt to spread your angst ymb
We can all choose whether to view a measure such as this as a 'step in the right direction' as ludwig has; or as just another thing that can be distorted to provide an opportunity for bitching and whining.

In order for this crime to be dealt with and punished, we have first to find the victims. As I understand it, these cases of forced marriages are, by their very nature hidden away, mostly abroad, so I am not sure how many cases are going to be identified in the first place.
Again, not what "lefty liberal handwringers" and our "right-on judges" have to do with this, let alone the ECHR ?
Sorry YMB, but again, I am not sure what point you are trying to make. If it is to bring this new law to our attention, and produce a healthy debate, then that is fine. But are you sure you are not just using this as an excuse to have a moan about other peoples political views ?
