No, I wish we were back in the financial position we were in 7-8 years ago.

For most people a recession is not about feeling richer or poorer, it's about financial security, so if you're less likely lose your job or business than you were this time last year, or more likely to find a job than you were, then I'd say you're feeling the benefits of the recovery whether you actually realise it or not.
Most people seem to think that the present Government is not handling the economy very well. Cuts are eating into every area of British life, from the NHS and libraries to passports. We seem to have sunk into a low-wage economy, with the growth of low hours and zero hours contracts. So I am not sure who exactly thinks they are better off ?
I do wish that some clever person would invent a better system whereby you receive every penny that you earn & pay taxes through spending.
eg. Scrap Road Fund Licence, tax on fuel = the more you use the roads the more tax you pay. Scrap Income Tax, Purchase Tax on Everything = the more you buy the more tax you pay ( build in re-claim vouchers for the very lowest earners etc.)

The so-called Economic Recovery is only back to about the level when Tory took over and before Osborne's First Budget plunged us into the second recession. But this had always been the Tory ploy, four years of making things so bad the only way in the fifth year is UP and many of the electorate with their short memory and gullibility will be fooled.
Ymb,
For the past 4 years the economic figures for the country have been very poor and opinion polls bear out what Mikey says that a majority of the electorate have not been happy with Osbornes performance.
The problem with the upturn in the economy is that it is not nationwide. There has been no change outside London and the South East. The rest of the country is still stagnant and does not feel any better off. And they resent being told they should be grateful when they are in fact not feeling any better.
The OP refects the view in the rest of the country, that they don't believe the figures. They don't believe all is rosey again, because it isn't.

I am not sure who DOES think they are better off ? You mentioned London Gromit but London has a huge housing crisis, and a decent, affordable home is a pretty basic thing to want.
One of the daftest things that the Government has said recently is that the current fiasco at the Passport Office is caused mainly by lots more people going on holiday because they are enjoying are our "increased wealth"
Highly creative rhetoric but you have to admire their nerve for trying it on I suppose.
