Yes I know they lost two World Wars, but one has to admit that almost everything they do or make is the 'tops'. Why?

A bit later I worked in a similar yard in Hamburg. Although it was twice as big, one manager(with secretary) seemed to run the whole place. He even found time for avuncular chats re lodgings, transport or anything else he could assist with. (I think he liked practising/showing off his English. And why not, it was better than mine, lol.)

//If it is so great, why don't you go and live there.//
I did, 10 years ago and I like it, and have no intention of leaving. The people are extremely friendly, generous, and hard-working, and the British type class system is non-existent.
retrocop "Deutschland Uber Alles." does not mean what it is mistakenly thought to mean. It means, (freely translated), My country before everything. Jingoistic perhaps, but so are most national anthems, Rule Britannia included, and probably more so
